I have lived a life where I have gone from obsessively planning my meals calorie by calorie; to omitting or restricting foods and/or food groups, claiming my choices to be due to allergies, intolerances, or “that food or food group causes this is that in my body, so I can’t eat it anymore”; to finally turning a massive corner and realising that all of this conduct “at” food or food groups, was actually how I was eating - my behaviour in my choices.
What does this even mean?
Simply - the second principle of “Simple.Whole.Well” - Whole. - if you are eating mainly a wholefoods diet (I use this word in the function of food consumption versus its overuse for food restriction), the need to restrict any food group is minimal to zero. Why? Because you have an amazing functioning body that is always looping continuously to use every ounce of wholefood you give it. Wholefood eating gives your body an abundance of nutrients that it can use immediately. Therefore, there are so few reasons for eliminating foods or food groups. There are some variables that need to be considered such as gut health, and clean, chemical-free water intake, choosing spray-free and/or organic foods, and limiting stressors in your life. However, due to our amazing body’s ability to process, digest, and sort food as we eat it and utilise the nutrients, it gets, as well as keep a state of equilibrium of health, there is little need for us to supplement or eliminate.
This is not saying there are times we need supplementation and support to our body support when a toxin enters, or environmental variables have impacted and causing distress in our body, however, the Simple. (first principle) answer is: limit human interference. And start listening to your body - what is he or she wanting? For example: think about the time after you have been unwell, what does your immediately crave?
So, if you’ve got the above down pat - wholefood as much and many as you can, awareness of environmental impacts, and reducing stressors in your life, then this is when the consideration for your behaviour with food and food consumption matters. This includes how are you eating food, when (time of day), where (environment), and why (did you make that choice).
Simple.
Life is meant to be simple. It is us and our interference that makes things complex!
And when researching - two basic fundamental principles: (1) look for at least one valid source that disagrees with your mindset and beliefs, that way you can weigh up the pros and cons better. And (2) how did this research get funded? Who, what and where is the money behind it?
